More than one million runners in 311 events

2001-10-18In the aftermath of its 28th real,- BERLIN-MARATHON of September 30, 2001, the SCC Berlin can proudly report an impressive record of participation in events organized by this club:
A total of 1,025,309 runners took part in 311 races during the period from 1964 to 2001.
The nine races staged in 2001 alone saw 89,803 runners starting. Top ranked is the real,- BERLIN-MARATHON with a total of 56,427 participants (37,815 in the full marathon, 12,000 in the breakfast run??, 6,326 in the MINI-MARATHON, and 266 in the bambini run), followed by the City Night race on Kurfuerstendamm with 6,207 runners and the AVON RUNNING event in which 6,083 women participated. The list could be continued...
This record participation series of running events kicked off with the 1st Berlin Cross-Country-Lauf up and around the Teufelsberg hills on November 8, 1964, which attracted 700 runners.
