IAAF.org: Ayhan - "I have a surprise"

The 24 year-old though is not a fast driver

2003-08-31

Like most professional athletes, Sureyya Ayhan has little time for things not directly related to her job. Once a week though, she says, she tries to catch a movie. The last film she watched was a Turkish production entitled "Green Light," apropos for the fast-starting 1500m star, whose start can be likened to that of eager drivers stopped at a traffic light.

The 24 year-old though is not a fast driver. That could get her in trouble. She wants to avoid trouble, and thats precisely why she likes to lead.

"Tactically its a risk if you stay or wait too long to move ahead," the overwhelming favorite for the 1500m title said yesterday. "You can crash, you can fall. I don want to take that chance. Thats why I always want to be the first from the start."
