The BMW BERLIN-MARATHON will not take place as planned for September 26-27, 2020 Nevertheless, from September 26th to 27th, 2020, countless athletes will be active worldwide as they take on the 2:01:39 Challenge, in which they are to cover as many kilometers as possible in 2:01:39 hours. This time corresponds to the world record time set by Eliud Kipchoge in 2018 at the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON.

The free 20139 Challenge App

Everyone is invited to participate during the specified period (September 26-27, 2020) with the help of the free 20139 Challenge App - whether you set out in running shoes, on inline skates or by hand bike or wheelchair. The app will be available for Android and iOS devices starting mid-September. In addition to classic tracking and a sharing functions, it will provide specific rankings. Furthermore, coordinated running charts and audio commentaries will create an alluring live experience. Thus, every single participant can join in the #berlin42united community.

The elite athletes

The 2:01:39 Challenge is also attracting elite athletes. On September 27, 2020, a quartet of top German runners (Philipp Pflieger, Richard Ringer, Florian Orth, Johannes Motschmann) and a trio of inlineskaters (Katharina Rumpus, Felix Rijhnen, Ewen Fernandez) will attempt to crack the time of 2:01:39 hours over the marathon distance via a relay around the area of the Berlin Victory Column (subject to official approval.) In addition a women's team and a relay team made up of young people from SCC BERLIN will be at the start (details will follow shortly).

A stage for the sport

"With the 2:01:39 Challenge, SCC EVENTS is offering athletes a stage for their sport. Through the race at the Victory Column and via the 20139 app and the option to compete individually from around the world from September 26-27, 2020, we are creating a sense of community that unites both elite and amateur athletes,” commented Mark Milde, Race Director of the 2:01:39 Challenge. Due to the current virus situation, spectators can only follow this action online, which is taking place in compliance with current health regulations. The 27th of September is being cast as a "somewhat different marathon day" and will be broadcast live on rbb television from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
