The international athletics federation IAAF has now ratified the world record mark of 2:03:38 hrs by Kenyan Patrick Makau at the BMW BERLIN MARATHON on September 25th, 2011. Also ratified was Makau´s world record for 30 km as a split time of the same marathon.
As early as never before the BMW BERLIN MARATHON is sold out. Registration for next year´s event (September 30th, 2012) closed Thursday, December 8th, almost nine months ahead. The field is limited to 40,000 participants. The last 1,000 entries were connected with a charitable donation for projects helping children (42,195 euros). With the BMW BERLIN MARATHON 100 days away, race director Mark Milde announced the return of marathon world record holder Haile Gebrselassie to the streets of Berlin. 23,931 registrations was the count on Wednesday, January 5th, at noon time. Thus a little more than 1,000 spots are left of the second wave of entries (until 25,000). Entry fee at this stage is 80 Euros, thereafter, until the total participation limit of 40,000 is reached, it is 100 Euros.
