Neighborhood running tracks

The running tracks along the BMW BERLIN MARATHON course

Tension is building up! On Sunday, September 29, SCC EVENTS will send more than 44.000 runners on the fastest marathon course of the world. We describe four neighborhood tracks near the original course of the BMW BERLIN MARATHON. Whether idyllic along the river Spree from Charlottenburg castle to the government District or through the Volkspark Wilmersdorf in the southern part of the marathon course. Here you can run the last miles to get in the mood for the big race or you have an easy jog to get rid of your sore muscles on the day after. Have fun on your run.

Course A

Sightseeing along the River Spree (West)

Start

Bundeskanzleramt (Federal Chancellery) / Tipi-Tent

Highlights

Bundeskanzleramt, Haus der Kulturen der Welt (Schwangere Auster / Pregnant Oyster), Schloss Bellevue (Bellevue Castle), Schloss Charlottenburg (Charlottenburg Castle)

The varied 6 km long course along the Spree goes westward to one of the most scenic recreation areas of Berlin. In this unique idyll with most impressing views at the Charlottenburg castle, the near river and many little niches you can run an extra 3 km lap. After that you return to your starting point running back on the embankment of the Spree. The end of your City West Tour is in the start-finish area of the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON where you can have a cool drink and get in the right mood for the big day.

Course B

Jogging in the heart of Berlin

Start

Platz des 18. März opposite Brandenburg Gate

Highlights

Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag, Victory Column, Zoological Garden

Tiergarten is Berlins biggest park. That’s why it never gets too packed even in the summer season. You find an interesting mix of jogging tourists and locals, soccer and Frisbee players or people enjoying a walk. After working out you can relax and have a drink in the “Café am Neuen See” or in the English Garden. Small stretches of the 5- or 7km lap lead through the start/finish area of the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON. If there are closures already you find back to the course shown on the map after a short detour.

Course C

Sightseeing along the river Spree (East)

Start

Bundeskanzleramt / Tipi-Tent

Highlights

Bundeskanzleramt, Haus der Kulturen der Welt („Pregnant Oyster“), Bellevue Castle, Reichstag, Berliner Dom, Museumsinsel

The 10km lap through the Government district and the City East offers a fantastic program for all runners with a special touristic interest. The ramble through the history of Berlin starts in modern times  at the Bundeskanzleramt (Federal Chancellery) and leads a long way back into the past at the Fischer- and the Museumsinsel and the Berliner Dom (Berlin Cathedral). The scenery is quite lively n the summer. Strollers, business people and runners share the embankment with the highest density of boat jetties in Berlin. After your run you can have a cool drink in the beergarden of the “Pregnant Oyster” watching boats and ducks.

Course D

Volkspark Wilmersdorf

Start

Rathaus Schöneberg (Platz am Goldenen Hirsch / Golden Deer)

Highlights

Town Hall Schöneberg, Golden Deer Statue, Goldfish Pond

The 8km lap through Volkspark Wilmersdorf connects the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON course between km 23 and 31. It is hilly, you have look at in the summer. At the goldfish pond a heron hunts, at the Golden Deer Statue passionate boule players meet. The narrow and long stretched park leads through highly populated districts and is well known for its high runner density. It gets quieter around the Fennsee (Lake). On the motorway bridge you have a view at the Funkturm (TV Tower). On the other side you find a little lap around the Track&Field and the Ice arena Wilmersdorf.
