Feasibility check for different options is still ongoing
We had hoped to be welcoming each one of you, more than 45,000 finishers of the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON, four months from now at the Brandenburg Gate with a well-deserved medal—a medal to recognize not only the performance, the marathon run itself, but also and especially to honour you for your long and intensive preparation, for overcoming obstacles and the low times, and for
experiencing the highs. The medal serves as a symbol for the achieving legendary status in Berlin, celebrating one's own strength and stamina.
Normally, your training for the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON 2020 should be in full swing now, the anticipation rising, along with the growing volume of the training kilometres.
That is precisely why we are aware that you need certainty. Unfortunately, we still cannot provide you any certainty at this point in time. What we do know is that the BMW BERLIN MARATHON 2020 cannot take place as planned on September 26 and 27, 2020.
Further information will follow
After our last mail it has become a bit quieter, we have been holding back on social media. Instead, we have been continuing to put all our energy into examining various options. We are being very cautious with the responsibility we bear as organisers. Every decision is also made against the background of the effects it could have on the participants, the attendants and the spectators along the course. Due to the size of the event and the multitude of people and authorities involved, we still need some time to complete this process.
So we hope you are healthy and you can run, skate and drive your wheelchair or handbike and enjoy sports despite some restrictions—because the most important thing a medal stands for is the passion for sports, which unites us all, as different as we are, at every starting line and finish. Let us not forget why we run or skate or drive wheelchair or handbike. Let's keep the passion and fun in our hearts, no matter when we run for the next medal.

BMW BERLIN-MARATHON cannot take place as planned
For over a year. we have been working on the 47th edition of the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON. Just like us, runners, wheelchair athletes, hand bikers and skaters from 150 nations could not wait to get to the starting line. Unfortunately, it is now certain: the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON cannot take place on September 26-27, 2020 as planned.
Due to the regulation on the prohibition of major events against the background of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic in accordance with § 32 Sentence 1 of the Infection Protection Act, events with more than 5,000 people present at the same time are prohibited by the responsible Berlin authorities until October 24, 2020. This is intended to slow down the spread of the COVID-19 virus. We know that your disappointment is huge and we too are incredibly sad, but of course we understand this measure as your health is of utmost importance.
Further information until end of June
In order to examine different options for the implementation of further action, we need a little more time due to the size of the event and the number of people involved. In addition, we cannot work in full team strength on the upcoming tasks at the moment, as, like many others, the SCC EVENTS team is currently on short-time work.
Nevertheless, we are still putting all of our available energy into this process and will contact you by the end of June at the latest with details about the further procedure regarding the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON. Should we have any new information before then, we will of course let you know immediately.
Until then, please refrain from contacting us by mail, phone, contact form or via social media channels. We thank you very much for your understanding.
