Preparations are of course already well underway for the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON (incl. Inline Skating) 2021. We are excitedly looking forward to finally being back at the starting line with you in Berlin.
Since your health and the health of all participants is our absolute priority, a safety and hygiene concept applies.
Starting requirement: All participants must be vaccinated, recovered or have a negative PCR test. This PCR test must be done at our EXPO.
More information about this can be found in the FAQ points 6, 7, 9 and 10.
Yes, if you are interested, you can postpone your participation until 2022, because special situations require good solutions. Besides a guaranteed race entry for next year, we also grant you a discount with the goodwill offer. We will completely refund all additional services booked for this year, exceptions are the cancellation insurance and donations.
You can transfer your race entry to next year’s event on your own. And this is how it works:
- Log in to your user account >>
- Select "My registrations" in the menu
- Select the event (BMW BERLIN-MARATHON)
- Click the button "postpone participation to next year”
- Confirm your choice --> you will receive a confirmation mail about the successful transfer of your race entry to the year 2022
You will see the exact conditions of the transfer offer and all further information about the procedure before you confirm your selection.
We are looking forward to welcoming you next year at the starting line in Berlin!
If you registered with a group (tour operator, charity partner, club or company) please contact your contact person for details.
If you get COVID-19 or if you are in quarantine, a refund of your registration fee is only possible if you have taken out an insurance policy covering this.
If it is impossible for you to travel to the event because, for example, entry into Germany is banned for your home country, a refund of your registration fee is unfortunately not possible. We can only refund your registration fee if we have to officially cancel the event.
Find out more about the current restrictions here.
Participants who registered before May 6, 2021, 08:15 am and did not accept or declined the new terms and conditions have to let us know of their decision until August 17, 2021.
Please log in your user account, go to "My registrations" and select the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON. A tap opens in which the decision can be made.
In order to be considered as fully vaccinated by us, you must have received your second vaccination as a skater no later than September 10 and as a runner on September 11, 2021. The vaccine must be licensed by the EU and approved by the EMA. Here you can find a list of all currently approved SARS-CoV-2 vaccines (Note on Corminaty vaccine from Biontech: This is the vaccine offered by Biontech/Pfizer as the marketing authorization holder. Sometimes colloquially either only Biontech or only Pfizer is used abroad).
Exception: If vaccinated with the Johnson&Johnson vaccine, it is sufficient if the first vaccination takes place on September 10 (skaters) or September 11 (runners).
You are considered recovered
1. when you have had a PCR confirmed SARS-Cov-2 infection and have been vaccinated once with a SARS-CoV-2 vaccine by September 10 (skater) or September 11, 2021 (runner).
2. when you've experienced a SARS-CoV-2 infection after your first vaccination and have received another dose of vaccine by September 10 (skater) or September 11, 2021 (runner)
3. if you have experienced a confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection during the period from March 26 to August 27, 2021 (skater) or August 28, 2021 (runner) (verified by PCR testing at the time of infection)
Yes, there will be a MARATHON EXPO 2021, but in a smaller version than usual, in accordance with the health regulations.
Visitors and participants can learn more about lifestyle, sports, wellness, health and nutrition from national and international exhibitors as well as purchase their favorite item from the new BMW BERLIN-MARATHON collection.
At the MARATHON EXPO, participants also pick up their race kit and receive a status check for a negative Covid19 proof in accordance with the hygiene concept (see point 9).
Visitors of the MARATHON EXPO are admitted free of charge. In advance, visitors (from age 12) must also provide negative proof of Covid19 (vaccinated/recovered/tested [PCR test, rapid test updated daily]), which is stored electronically in a app. For EU citizens, these are either in the official Corona warning app, the Luca app or the CovPass app. There is also an attendance record via LucaApp upon entry.
Fully vaccinated or recovered?
Beside your official identification (passport or ID) and your start card (you'll receive it approx. 10 days before the event), you'll need a proof that you are vaccinated or recovered. This proof must be electronically stored in a app. For EU citizens, these are either the official Corona warning app, the Luca app or the CovPass app.
Neither vaccinated nor recovered?
If you are not vaccinated or did not recover from having COVID-19, then in addition to your official ID (passport, ID card) and your start card (we will send you), you will need a PCR test or a rapid antigen test from accredited testing centers, which are electronically stored in a app. For EU citizens, these are either the official Corona warning app, the Luca app or the CovPass app. Note that you will then still need a PCR test (and not just a rapid antigen test) for the race day.
Note that is mandatory to have PCR test for the race day, when you are unvaccinated or not recovered from Covid-19. We soley accept the standardized PCR tests performed at the MARATHON EXPO which we offer to a lower price in comparison to regular test stations. We are only accepting the PCR test offered by us in order to keep the logistics simple and fast for all parties involved.
Your check-in days for your PCR-test at the EXPO are (unvaccinated and not recovered people):
September 23 or 24, 2021
- for Inline Skater Thursday and Friday
September 24 or 25, 2021
- for the particiants in the running, wheelchair and handbike competitions on Friday and Saturday in order for the PCR test to be valid for the event day.
Please bring your mask.
Unless you are vaccinated or recovered, you will need a PCR test to enter the event area on race day. You can book this test via your user account for 38€ in advance.

This year’s start and finish areas as well as the course will be very similar to previous events, with the start and finish on the boulevard Strasse des 17. Juni, between the Brandenburg Gate and the “Kleiner Stern” roundabout. More detailed information, including special conditions (e.g. a possible masking requirement), will be available very soon.
Besides your race number and the participation wristband (you will get it at the MARATHON EXPO). You also need your COVID status wristband that you will get from us at the MARATHON EXPO, which proves that you are either vaccinated, recovered or tested according to our specifications. Please remember your mask
Unfortunately, we can not offer a self-refreshment service along the course this year. This is related to the compliance with hygiene rules.
However, there will be plenty of refreshments suitable for athletes along the route.
We developed a far-reaching hygiene concept in cooperation with the authorities.
At the moment, we are putting all our efforts into making sure that the event will take place- which we are assuming.
However, we cannot look in the future and predict the development of the Corona pandemic. With our hygiene concept, we are preparing with the involvement of many experts so that the event can take place. Nevertheless, we also have to take into account all eventualities regarding the development of the pandemic. Many hotel portals offer the possibility of free cancellation.
We have also included spectators in our hygiene concept, with various options for visiting the event.
Spectators following the race action along the course are requested to wear a medical mask and keep the appropriate distances of 1.5 meters.
At certain cheering points along the course, entry will only be by proof of 3G (Vaccinated, Convalescent, Tested), which at best will be proven digitally either in the official Corona warning app, the Luca app or the CovPass app.
Again, there is a mask requirement and dial-in to the Luca app (as proof of attendance).
Only spectators who can show a Covid-19 prove that they have been vaccinated or have recovered or can show a negative PCR test (test time from 10 a.m. on Friday) or rapid test (test time from 3 p.m. on Saturday) from accredited test centers may enter the start and finish areas. At best, the proofs are stored electronically either in the official Corona warning app, the Luca app or the CovPass app.
Spectators must dial into the event via the Luca app and wear a medical mask and maintain appropriate distances.
The number of spectators in the start-finish area is limited. An entry fee will not be charged this year either.
As a vaccinated and recovered person, you will receive the blue participation wristband (as usual) at the MARATHON EXPO after the Covid 19 status check and the verification of your ID and start card.
As a non-vaccinated and non-recovered person, you will receive a QR code wristband at the MARATHON EXPO (after the PCR test).
If your PCR test is negative, your QR code wristband will be exchanged for the blue participation wristband at the entrance to the start area on race Sunday.
In case of a positive result, please do not come to the marathon area, but seek medical support.
You can also retrieve the QR code result yourself in advance via smartphone (approx. 8 hours after the test).
IMPORTANT: Please keep the blue participation wristband on until you leave the marathon site on Sunday. Do not remove it before then!
Unfortunately, due to the pandemic situation, the GENERALI BREAKFAST FUN, the post-race party, as well as the Pasta Lounge will not take place.
All participants who booked the Pasta Lounge will be contacted by us via e-mail, and we will refund the amount paid (details here).
The Bambini Run will only be available as a virtual variant.
We are also currently looking into a possible virtual solution for the mini-marathon.
We hope to be able to hold the ecumenical marathon prayer and the literature marathon under the regulations in place at that time.
