Opening Ceremony at the Brandenburg Gate - the perfect start to the marathon weekend

On September 27, an unforgettable opening show awaits you in front of the Brandenburg Gate to kick off the anniversary weekend of the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON. Look forward to a big stage full of stars, including marathon legends such as Uta Pippig, Tigst Assefa and the first Berlin winner Günter Hallas. The event will be topped off with live musical performances by Lucenzo, Joy Denalane and Nomcebo Zikode.

Marathon legends in the spotlight

Experience some of the most famous personalities in running up close! Uta Pippig, three-time Berlin winner, and world record holder Tigst Assefa, the new hope of running, share the stage with other icons such as Tegla Loroupe, Naoko Takahashi and the very first Berlin winner Günter Hallas. These legends bring the history of the marathon to life and make the opening a historic event.

Musical highlights

Not only marathon legends will be in the spotlight. Rousing live performances by LUCENZO, singer of the worldwide number one hit “Danza Kuduro”, Berlin's international soul diva JOY DENALANE, LONDONBEAT with their evergreen “I've been thinking about you” and two-time Grammy winner NOMCEBO ZIKODE, among others, will set musical accents and make the stage in front of the Brandenburg Gate shake. Their music reflects the changing times and complements the celebrations in a special way.

50 years of the BERLIN-MARATHON

This opening show is more than just the start of a sports weekend - it is a celebration of 50 years of marathon history in Berlin. It is also a thank you to all Berliners, volunteers and pioneers who have supported and accompanied us over the years. A thank you to an entire city that has shaped the BERLIN-MARATHON over five decades and made it a place of longing for all runners worldwide.
