BMW BERLIN-MARATHON

Every September, the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON brings together tens of thousands of runners from around the world to take on one of the most iconic marathon courses on the planet. Known for its fast course, electric atmosphere and unforgettable finish at the Brandenburg Gate, Berlin has become a global stage for personal bests, breakthrough performances and record-breaking moments.

Sabine Fimmel has been taking part in the BERLIN-MARATHON since 1984. This year, she will be lining up at the start for the 38th time. In this interview, she talks about how it all began with a running lap around Krumme Lanke, what has changed over the past decades, and why she still gets nervous before the start to this day.

Defending Champion and World Record Holder Sabastian Sawe has withdrawn from the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON on 27 September due to injury. The event remains packed with top-class athletes and promises to deliver an exceptional race, particularly in the women’s field.

As announced by SCC EVENTS—the organizer of the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON—in mid-May, world record holder Sabastian Sawe will take to the start line in Berlin on 27 September. In mid-June, SCC EVENTS also unveiled a star-studded women's field featuring world record holder Tigst Assefa, Rosemary Wanjiru, and Germany’s Esther Pfeiffer.
