Brown back in action on USA circuit

Britain's Jon Brown who pulled out of last week's World Championships claiming he was not fully prepared for the endurance race, showed good form in the United States at the weekend. Brown, fourth in last year's Olympic marathon for the second successive Games, finished fifth in the Falmouth Massachusetts road race on Sunday over a distance of 7.1 miles.

Brown who travelled from his Vancouver home, was in contention until the middle of the race when defending champion Gilbert Okari pulled away to win ahead of fellow Kenyans Wilson Kiprotich and John Korir.

Okari on a hot and humid day, clocked 31minutes 59seconds beating Kiprotich by 16 seconds with Korir finishing in 32min 35sec. Brown 34, finished four seconds behind Meshak Sang another Kenyan in a time of 32min 48sec suggesting if it is in his plans, he is ready for an autumn marathon.

The big USA city events in Chicago and New York are scheduled for October 9 and November 6. Lornah Kiplagat of the Netherlands a three-times past winner of the race, took the women's title 19seconds clear of Russia's Alevtina Ivanova in a time of 36min 09sec.

Deena Kastor the Olympic marathon bronze medallist after flying back from the World Championships in Helskinki where she contestd the 10,000 m, was third in 36min 48sec.
